Hypotension is the opposite of hypertension, which is high blood pressure. Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps out blood. If it is lower than normal then it is called low blood pressure or hypotension. Hypotension is generally considered as systolic blood pressure less than 90 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg) or diastolic less than 60 mm Hg.[2][3] However in practice, blood pressure is considered too low only if noticeable symptoms are present.

  1. Dehydration
  2. Bleeding, owing to the effects of surgery or due to any internal condition
  3. Any inflammation in the body
  4. Any failure or weakness in this Heart
  5. Certain medications when used for a period of time, or even in small doses. Commonly used medications that may have such an effect include calcium channel blockers and beta blockers. Medicines administered for treating high blood pressure can also reduce blood pressure to dangerously low levels. Medication used to treat depression can also result in lowered pressure of blood flowing through the blood vessels of your body.
  6. Any infection in the body
  7. External stimuli like fear or shock.

  1. Dizziness or a feeling of light headedness
  2. Blurred vision
  3. A feeling of being confused
  4. Excessive weariness or fatigue
  5. Feeling nauseous or sick
  6. Profuse sweating

  1. Get up and sit down slowly
  2. Do Not stand very long
  3. Eat slowly and consume low amounts of carbohydrates
  4. Alcohol consumption should be reduced or eliminated
  5. Increase consumption of salt
  6. Exercise

  1. Beetroot (Chukunder): A drink of raw beetroot juice daily and kept up for a fortnight or so is said to help relieve the symptoms of low blood pressure.
  2. Asafetida (Heeng): A natural cure for low blood pressure is the use of asafetida in food as it aids in the increase of blood pressure.
  3. Raisins: Eating raisins in the morning, after they have been soaked overnight in water is another natural treatment for low blood pressure. You should do this on any empty stomach.
  4. Breathing exercises: Practicing yoga breathing exercises that improve the supply of blood to all tissues of the body is also a good means of managing low blood pressure.
